Wood-Fired Pizza – The Biggest Trend in Pizza

Wood-Fired Pizza – The Biggest Trend in Pizza

Fresh ingredients, authentic fire, and genuine attention to detail from passionate artisans. These are just some of the incredible characteristics that create mouth-watering and delicious pizzas. Not just any pizza, though, pizza cooked in a true wood-fired oven.

History of the Wood Fired Oven

It’s no secret that wood-fired brick ovens have been around since the beginning of civilization. Ovens have been found in nearly every excavation of ancient civilizations. Ovens reached a modern form in Rome. Over time, ovens in separate parts of the world were tweaked with different features: varying shaped tops, adjusted vent systems, and even the size of the oven itself. Romans and Greeks may not have made quite the pizza dishes we make today, but the ability to turn fresh ingredients into meals for communities sparked cooking towards a delicious and timeless journey.

Modern Pizza

During the 1970s, mass-produced pizzas and electric ovens began to take off. Pushing pizza to one of the most popular dishes on the planet. With endless ingredient options, it’s easy to understand why so many people love their pizza. Mass-produced pizzas made it easier for families to quickly throw a meal into an oven and less than 30 minutes later be able to sit down in front of the TV and chow down in everyone’s respective couch position. They were great for dates, to throw away the box and place a pizza on a decorative dish and make it look like it was created especially for their guests.

Electric ovens made deliveries possible. Ordering a pizza and having someone deliver it, hot and ready to eat, in less than an hour was a game-changer for households. One phone call and some cash were all it took to get an entire meal.

As great as that all may have seemed at the time, and even occasionally now in our current world, most people miss the authenticity and quality that came with fresh ingredients and wood-fired cooking. People longed for the experience that goes along with dining out with their friends and family.

How Rising Trends Led to Bringing Back Authenticity

Healthier eating, affordable options, dining experiences that fit our busy lifestyles, and unique atmospheres are all things people nowadays are searching for. Society is moving past the ‘get it now’ mentality when it comes to food. People pay more attention to what they eat, where it comes from, and how it’s prepared. Soon, wood-fired pizza ovens started making their way back into both the pizza and the fast-casual dining game.
